How old were you when you decided that you wanted to do hifz?

Hafiz Faizan: I was 11 years old when I decided to start my Hifz-e-Quran.

Hafiz Imaad: I was 13 when I started memorising the Quran.

What inspired you, to memorise the Quran?

Hafiz Faizan: I was inspired by one of my friends who was doing hifz at the time. I would listen to him recite the Quran in a beautiful manner, and to some extent helped me to decide that I wanted to do Hifz.

Hafiz Imaad: I had family members who were Hafiz and others who were doing hifz, so this was what inspired me initially. As I progressed in my hifz, my teacher was also a great source of inspiration, who guided me to complete my hifz and then lead tarawee prayer.

How long did it take for you to complete hifz?

Hafiz Faizan: It took me 2 and half years to complete the enitire Quran.

Hafiz Imaad: It took me 6 years to finish my hifz. This included a lot of time where I wasn’t as focused, as I should’ve been and dedicated enough.

Did you ever feel like giving up?

Hafiz Faizan: On many occasions I felt like giving up, but my parents encouraged me and supported me greatly; they would listen to me read, give me gifts and reward me. You will have good days and bad days as with anything, however always work on your mistakes and never give up.

Hafiz Imaad: I never felt like giving up, but there were moments where I lacked motivation, and didn’t feel like putting the effort in that was needed. However my teacher was able to constantly push and motivate me, to get me back on track and strengthen my manzil.

How did you keep yourself motivated?

Hafiz Faizan: I kept my self motivated by looking at how well I have already done, and working towards my ultimate goal, memorisation of the entire Quran. My class peers were a motivation as we would work as a team.

Hafiz Imaad: I kept myself motivated by setting interim targets, and deadlines for myself to meet for individual paray etc. Also I would go to the masjid with class mates, outside of class time to learn which kept me motivated, as I found it easier to do hifz when there were others also doing the same.

Do you have any tips you can share, that may help others who are wanting to do hifz?

Hafiz Faizan: My top tip would be, to revise all your previous sabaq everyday. This will make your recitation and memorisation much stronger. Another top tip would be always get your parents duaas, they take you a long way!

Hafiz Imaad: I would advise others to spend as much time as they can on their hifz, as this will allow them to complete the memorisation of the Quran quicker, and keep their manzil strong. Also show respect to the Holy Quran and the teacher. The influence of a good teacher can never be erased, always keep your teacher happy.

We thank you for taking your time to read this awesome Q&A summary.
